Roberto Viyuela has been recently appointed LafargeHolcim EMEA Digital Center Head of Availability and End-to-End Technology. With over twenty years of experience in the Tech Industry, Roberto will now be responsible to lead the team to guarantee the delivery of the value to product-centric teams and fulfil business needs in the shortest period.

Have you set up any objectives you want to achieve within your new role? 

This is a new role with a key focus on two main areas, strengthening availability management and on-demand delivery. Regarding availability, the ambition will be to move towards a zero downtime, strengthen availability management and high-priority incidents readiness and response. We will achieve this by reducing the meantime to detect (MTTD) and the meantime to recovery (MTTR) when there is an issue. We also are going to set up procedures for “pre-, during and post-incident” management. At the same time, regarding on-demand delivery, we will look into the creation of a common framework to provide added value to product-centric teams. We will work to enable the automation of the continuous delivery pipeline setting a DevOps approach. This will allow us to improve our meantime to value (MTTV).

The team will be built from scratch, following the agile methodologies and trying to get most from full-stack teams.

How does success look like…

The objectives related to the time reduction of providing value to business like meantime to value (MTTV) and mean time to delivery (MTTD) and the objectives to reduce issues impact like meantime to detect (MTTD) and recovery (MTTR) are highly important to reaching our goals. But I think we can say that overall we will be successful if we manage to provide as much value as possible to the product-centric teams in order to deliver what businesses expect from us in a short period of time.

What are you most proud of…? 

It’s only my third week in this new position, but I have already held various meetings with different team members and managers. I’m extremely proud of the fact that everyone is looking for something new to achieve and to improve their job activities in a certain way. This mindset really amazes me.

Tell us about a secret talent….

I don’t really have any specific talent, I think, although I like to cook and during these days of confinement I have had time to develop it with quite a good result… or so I think…

If you could listen to only one song for the next 7 days, which one would you choose?

I would say that this would be the song  I’m listening to practically every day. My five years old son plays it every evening we go to the balcony to clap for the frontline workers. This is the Spanish song “Restitiré”; in English, it’s “I will resist.”

What is your best piece of advice for someone considering applying to LafargeHolcim EMEA Digital Center?

We’re not looking for people with specific knowledge, we look rather for those who strive to learn new things and open to new experiences. We’re looking for people who are flexible, adapt easily, and think out of the box. It is the attitude and ability to learn what makes the difference.
